what to do with loose hairs?

so my dreads are about 6 months old,
and I've found that most of my loose hairs are actually incorporated into a dreadlock,
then come loose maybe half way or 3/4 of the way down the dread.

my questions is,
do these hairs eventually get sucked into the dread,
or should I work on pulling/sewing them in?

Some of mine worked themselves in but some just group up and stay out. I used to hate it but now I'm starting to like it. Gives them character. lol I guess it really depends on your hair texture and if you want perfectly manicured dreads or messy ones.

personally, I would just let them go. Continue to rip and pull or seperate because loose hairs will get sucked into other dreads. A few months ago I had these loose hair on most of my deads but since then they really have been sucked in. I have the rip dreads apart almost daily. I also find washing your hair will result in loose hair getting sucked in.

Some of them will, some of them won't.

You can palm roll them a lot, and see if that helps, but you can very easily sew them back into your dreads with a tapestry needle or a crochet hook. Some sited sell 'loose hair tools', but you're most likely going to be overcharged for them. (They're just over priced latch hook tools)

But as was stated above, if you like the loose hairs, you can leave your dreads that way, but if you prefer neater dreads, you're going to want to slowly start taking care of those loose hairs.

I've finally found something that works (for me), to getting rid of loose hairs, and keep 'em where they should be! If I can explain it (well enough that ppl can understand), now that's a different story. ;)

When I'd use dreadhead's 'loose hair tool' it always helped, but I'd have to do it every single day, as the hairs would just end up working their way out again. Now, I take the loose hairs that are a bit down the dread, and pull them into a little 'fingerful', and twist 'em up into a tight little ball. At first it helped using dreadhead's lock peppa, but now I find that I don't need it to be able to roll those hairs together.

At this point, the little 'ball' can be 'tucked/sewed' into the dread, if desired (I use the 'loose hair tool' from dreadhead to do this), or just left where it is. The loose hairs actually stay tucked away, and don't pop out again! I've started doing this with the little whispy hairs (baby hairs, I guess) at the front of my head.. my 'wanna be' bangs. I just roll 'em into a tiny ball on my head and leave it there to grow somemore 'till it's big/long enough to tuck into the nearest dread.

This way of doing it has been my salvation, as I canNOT stand loose hairs.

Best of luck, may you find what works best for you.

I too will make little dread balls in the loose hair is really driving me insane. Within days to a couple weeks I won't even be able to see the dread ball anymore without sewing or tucking it in any where.

But my issue with crocheting, felting, or sewing is you always break more hairs then you are putting. For this me, this equals constant maintenance and a constant uphill battle with loose hairs. I find the more of this I do the more little broken frizzy hair I find on top of my head...let alone more longer hair that falls out of the dread. Eventually, after letting it the loose hair WILL get sucked it and won't come out. Plus not to mention the fact the more I work with my dreads, the more irritated I get with loose hairs, causing me to work it more, then causing more loose hairs in the long run.

ha! - it is a viscious circle, isn't it? for every one dread I find I want to work on (crocheting a loop in, ex.) I find 3 more that I also think need work!!

the past week we've been out of power at our house so I've had a lot of time to sit in the dark with my crochet hook. I've just been trying to gently go down each dread and pull the hook thru a few times, continuing all the way down the dread. I think that pulls some of the hairs in, but I don't feel like it's ripping too much apart.

I know i'm still in the locking process though too. it's only been 7 months and I have a few dreads that are pretty skinny and not dreaded up yet. I love the feel of the ones that are completely locked though!

enjoying the journey but excited for when they'll all be beautifully tight!!!
