So when i got my dreads done, the lady that did them put a lot more wax in than I would have wanted. (She didn't really let me see what she was doing, so I couldn't actually tell how much she was putting in until after). It's been about 2 weeks, and although some of the wax is gone, there is still a lot left and I want it gone!! I don't want to have to undo some of my dreads, I really don't. Is there any way I can get rid of some of the wax, especially near the roots? Help! I don't want waxy dreads!

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Thu, January 8, 2009 - 1:21 PMshit... have you been washing them? The best thing i can think of would be to was them in near scalding hot water (i know it sucks) with dread shampoo over and over. The hotter the better to try to melt the wax out. It will take a while, maybe a month or so to get them completely clean, then obviously, dont use anymore wax or you will have defeated the purpose. I am sorry this happened to you... goddam locticians, i have met a couple that know what they are doing, but for the most part they're just dipshits who went to cosmatolagy (sp?) school and learned to cut hair and do nails and now they want to do dreads. -

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Fri, January 9, 2009 - 6:59 AMYeah, I've been washing them. I did soak some of the waxiest in like boiling water and it definitely helped- although it hurt like a bitch when I spilled some of the water on my hand. But if I just use warm/hot water when I shower with my dread shampoo.. it'll come out eventually? -

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Fri, January 9, 2009 - 9:02 AMYes, it will come out.
When we first did my hair, we used a touch of wax. I hated it and washed immediately. We touched up the next day with some back-combing. It came out fast.
No worries.

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Fri, January 9, 2009 - 1:18 PMHi -
Use dish liquid... This will take out the wax. My hair is sort of fine. I'm not white, but the hair was curly and spirally before. I had to use lots of products to help the hair actually dread.
When I want to deep cleanse (once or twice a month), I use Ajax brand dish liquid. I wash my hair with lavendar VO5 shampoo and conditioner. Leaves my hair smelling soo good...to retwist roots - I use Isoplus brand product for dreads, twist, etc. It doesn't cause a buildup.
Hope this helps you - let me know.

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Sun, January 11, 2009 - 4:27 PMjust wash in hot water, then when your drying them, twist them tight as to wring out the wax to the surface of the lock.when you see the wax ,wipe it off with a towel,i use microfibre towels, they dont shed.you should be good after a few times of this, plus it also acts like a maintenance of your locks since you twist'em -

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Mon, January 12, 2009 - 11:18 AMI don't have my dreads yet (within next two weeks!) but I have been doing ALOT of research on just about all aspects of them and I read that soaking them in apple cider vinegar is the best way to get wax out. Also, I read alot about how PURE aloe vera is best for keepin' your flyaways tamed and dreads moisturized without buildup inside locks like wax. -

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Mon, January 19, 2009 - 7:18 PMI've had a hard time finding it too, even online. I think it's made in the UK, but you will want to check stores and salons that sell products for afro/ethnic hair.

Re: Help me get rid of all this wax!!
Fri, January 16, 2009 - 11:53 PMapple cider vineagar and hot water is meant to help get the wax out of your dreads. Fill a bucket/basin with really hot water and dip dreads into (dont burn your scalp). let soak for a couple of minutes and then squeeze water out of dreads. Apply a good amount of apple cider vinegar and let sit for 20minutes, rinse thoroughly. Then, if you want use whatever non-residue shampoo you use and wash your hair as normal.
