Hey all!
I've had my dreads for a couple years now, and for the last 4 or so months I have been contemplating bangs...I realize brushing a dread out is near impossible, but I was thinking about cutting it and then attempting to brush it out...its so scary though! I dont want to cut it and then realize that my hair is so damaged that the bangs look like straw! Any suggestions? I may just be S.O.L....
Thanks for reading...blessings

I've brushed-out my locks before. It's not impossible. Requires one helluva lotta patience and time and effort. I cut my locks to about 4" in length, then got to them with a whole bottle of conditioner, and a metal comb. I ended-up with a buncha blisters on my hands, and broke the metal comb in two different places. But I got them out. I had to trim about another inch of the ends, as they were kinda straw-like, but after a fw washes, the rest of the remaining hair settled down and looked fine. It's not something you can really know (i.e. how they're gonna look, or what condition they'll be in) until you actually do it though...

i brushed out my first set of dreads...did the same thing as beksta describes...i did it in spurts over a few days though, cuz it really is a pain lol...my arms were killing me...definintely possible though!! also, i think knottyboy.com has "emergency dread removal" stuff that is supposed to help the process along...just be patient when you do it...good luck! :-)
