why on earth do you have a damn crochet needle? I know there are some on here who are big on crocheting, but hell, it ain't gonna stop me putting my 2 cents-in and saying they're crap for dreads. Who wants to put such a bulky item through their dreads? Just gonna cause damage in the long run.

You want to get yourself a wool or tapestry needle. These look like regular sewing needles, but are larger and have a bigger eye. They're cheap as.

You want you dreads to be tight before you even attempt to round your tips, otherwise it's gonna be tricky, and you don't know what the finished product will look like...if your dreads aren't mature yet, even though you may have rounded the tips, the locks will continue tightening and you could have some problems. They need to be nice and tight before you round tips. And please get yourself a wool/tapesty needle...much easier to round with it, won't cause any damage, and you can continue to use the needle forsewing-in loose hairs down the track. Let me know when your locks are mature and I'll word you up on how to do it.

Bulky depends on the size some of the was smaller ones like 1mm and below are recommended for this method.. just as bulky as the needles descibed in beksta's post.

I have used crochet needles. small ones. I have 2 - one is 0.6mm and the other is 1.0mm. They work fine but am starting to find more loose hairs sticking out the sides of my dreads. Perhaps broken/damaged by the crochet hook?

I have just started using wool needle and will see whether or not i still have the same problem.

I have used both hook and needle, and found that the hook always caused problems, no matter how small the hook...it's all in the movement that is required of the hook in grabbing the hair to pull it through...you don;t have to do this action with the needle, hence no problems.
