Hello, I was curious whether anyone here has tried dying their dreds with Henna, and how that worked out. I don't use chemical dye anymore, and I love henna, but it's hard enough to rinse out of loose hair! I would imagine it could be a nightmare trying to get it out of dreds...but maybe there's a trick? What do you think?

I used it a few times, years back, and it actually seemed to last a lot longer than the store-bought nasty dyes too! :D Although I've never tried it with dreads, and yeah, I'd have the same concerns about getting it all out! there's gotta be *someone* on here who's tried it with dreads.... -

You don't really have to get it in, do you? I mean, when one uses henna paste for body art (mehndi), it stains nicely and the excess comes off easily. Why not use a similar mix for the surface of the hair (after all, it doesn't need to go IN the dread, just ON the dread).
Of course, I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that mixes for skin are slightly thicker than mixes for hair. -

Thu, May 28, 2009 - 9:17 AMnah the times I used hair henna, it wasn't a smooth consistency like with the skin stuff...I dunno if it's the same for all types of henna, but the stuff I used was really grainy, and pretty much had to comb the stuff out in the shower!
