so it's almost been 5 weeks for me and i feel like they're starting to tighten up a bit, but the only thing im worried about, as in the ONLY thing, i might actually tend to, are the roots, i dont want them all to form like a one inch layer around my head of just connected dreads all at the roots. i rip them apart but

im just wondering, will it ever stop? i backcombed my hair in sections on my own, which means slim to none of them are in squares, which that part i don't mind, but the roots ! ah ! i dont use anything on them, so if anyone has ever had this problem, which im sure it's kind of common, just help to make me feel better about it ahaha

    Anjalina,

To prevent this from happening, you gotta make sure you separate them (right down to the scalp) regularly, palm-roll, twist tem, whatever...get them dreading as far up to the scalp as you can, and this will stop happening...your dreads are still young, so it's natural for this to be happening...just keep seperating them...and as they start to mature and form into dreadlocks, most of the loose hairs will mat-in and won;t be able to really start matting together...just keep separating them and palm-rolling

You'll be fine! Just keep working on them and they'll eventually start behaving lol :P

Hi, yeah mine arent seperated in squares either! I also had the problem of the roots getting all knotted up together! But as Beksta said, keep seperating and palm-rolling. I sometimes tie the base of the dread with a rubber band or something if there's alot of loose hairs around, to prevent them from getting mixed up with their neighbours. Ha ha... I also do alot of crochet work on the bases to keep the dreads and loose hairs seperated. You'll also find that as they grow longer, the roots that you've missed to separate grow out. Or at least that's what's happened with me. And I find it helpful to just cut them apart, and continue with maintenance as I mentioned above. It works for me! Blessings
