Diet & Lifestyle

Hey people,
One thing I seldom hear discussed is how our diet and lifestyle may affect the condition of our dreads. I was having really lame dandruff/scalp problems for a while, but recently have been trying to eat predominantly whole grains, fruits, veg, and healthy (unsaturated) fats. Since then, the problems I was having virtually disappeared! Coincidence? I just wanted to put that out there. Sometimes we don't think much about what we put in our mouth affecting our hair & scalp (not to mention how we feel emotionally/mentally), but it really does make a difference!

Indeed! The healthier we eat, the healthier we feel! No doubt! Also, avoiding toxins, preservatives, etc. etc., will definately improve your energy!

Diet effects your skin so it just makes sense that it would have an impact on your scalp and hair also.

Make sure you're getting a healthy level and balance of your Omega oils (all of them). You can take a supplement like fish oils or evening primrose oil. I'm a firm believer that hair, skin, nails, eyes... ect are most greatly affected from the inside, out.

I totally agree that what you eat is going to affect your scalp. I've had seriously health problems and only recently started eating really healthily. I'm currently doing a liver cleanse (and in the near future will be doing other cleanses) and it's really taking a toll on me. I've had problems with dandruff and other skin issues for a long time, but since I've started the cleanse, everything has gotten so much worse. It's going to take awhile before my body is cleansed and in the meantime I'm suffering with some pretty bad dandruff. Blah. The lack of health knowledge my parents had while raising me and fact that I had my gall bladder removed when I was three years old really screwed things up for me, lol.

i also agree, and more so,i think lessening our chemical intake is very important ,,i try to eat organic,i am a vegetarian, mostly because of all the gmo's and growth horomones fed into the animals that we mass consume,,if i can find free range meat,,then i will eat it,,but that sadly never happens,it's just too exspensive,,and i don't hunt,,drinking alot of clean water, can help us all out with alot,I live in vermont where the air is mountain fresh, but for those not so fortunates that live in smog infested areas, with high polution levels,,it can definetly affect everything about your body,,and mostly external features,,,health and well being like ,,your dreadies,,doing a body cleanse once in a while,,and a fast,,realy does clear your body spirit and mind,,ha,,i sound like a hippie,

My family actually usually gets all of our beef from a farmer we know. And, in fact, it is cheaper than buying it at the store. But, you have to buy a quarter or half of a cow at a time, LOL. it's all organic and just so dang good. Mmm. I actually refuse to eat the beef from the stores anymore (unless it's organic or something) because it makes me feel sick to my stomach. I wonder why...

I'm actually going to have to do several liver cleanses (and other cleanses) before I start feeling better. I'm not just cleansing from almost 19 years of poison people call food (if anyone had told me how bad that stuff was for me, they could have saved me a lot of agony), I'm also cleansing from medications I've had to take over the years. Blah. I'm not complaining though. I'm so happy that I've finally figured out what's wrong with my health and am very grateful just to be alive right now.

By the way shebacupcake (that's a mouthful), if you sound like a hippie, maybe you should consider the possibility that you are. ;) Hehe.

LOL! No, we don't cut up the cow! The farmer sends it to a small town butcher. Actually, it was funny with the last quarter of a cow we got. Soon after we got it, I found out that someone I knew had started working at that butcher (doing the packing). She had actually packed our meat, lol! Ours was one of the first (or the first) she did and she remembered the last name. I told her, "Carmela, now whenever I eat beef, I'll think of you..." lol...

Actually, my sister rented that movie when she was visiting a few days ago. She didn't have a chance to watch it but we still have it ... I haven't had a chance to watch it either. I should watch it tomorrow! I really do feel really blessed having the knowledge I do about food, as well.
