Yesterday i took a shower and washed my dreads, most the time i blow dry um, but it still takes forever, anyways so i was getting dressed and stuff in my room and i smelled something funky, i looked around and around, tearing shit apart until finally i realized it was my dreads, their starting to get a milldewy smell, i usually only wash them once a week, cause i dont like um to stay wet. i know i could put some scented oil up in um, but i was wondering what else folks do. thankyou much

Re: Milldew
Tue, January 20, 2009 - 3:06 PMGODDESS BLESS TEA TREE!!! Its amazing I have 2 kids (a dread) and am allerigic to mildew and mold. So...I use it on everything from my person, my kids butts, bangs and cuts, and that scary thing growing behind the kitchen counter. Then lemon juice (but it will lighten your hair after many uses) and I would suggest wash your dreads at least 2 times a week and wrap them in shammys (thoes soft car cleaning things) it will make them dry quicker and with them you wont have to damage them as much as you would with a dryer.

Thu, October 30, 2008 - 4:12 AMI also have locs and I really love the products by Herb n Life www.herbnlifeproductions.com/
Most of their products can be purchased a a good health food store.

Re: Milldew
Mon, November 17, 2008 - 5:30 PMTry this deep cleaning soak:
mix ingedients in bowl/container that is large enough to soak all your dreads in
first, boil a handful of any of the following herbs in a medium pot until you have a dark, strong tea 15-30 minutes-try rosemary, nettles, peppermint, lavender, sage or thyme
pour tea into container & add water until full & at comfortable temperature
add 3/4 cup baking soda to tea/water and stir until disolved
add 2 tablespoons of each: apple cider vinegar, lime juice, sea salt
add 8 tea tree oil and 4 drops laveneder oil, mix well
soak your dreads as best as you can and dump the mixture over your dreads, making sure they are all saturated
wrap your dreads in a towel and enjoy the tingling feelings as your dreads and scalp get happy and clean
wait at least 30 minutes before rinsing
I use this once a week and my dreads smell like sunshine. :) -
