Hi i just got my dreads on the 23rd of november which was 3 days ago,
I have been researching How to properly maintain them !!
I am looking into making an accelerator or buying one.
I would like to know if any of you all youse them? what you recommend?
If you do use it when do you apply it ?leave it in?How long?
Thanks alot! Peace !!

Re: Any One Use accelerators? Home made? what works?
Tue, November 25, 2008 - 4:56 AMIf you're making an accelerator, you'll probably end up using some thing along the lined of diluted sea salt and maaaaaaaybe some tea tree oil. Most people spritz that on when their hair is wet. All accelerators are basically salt water. (Ocean water is really good for your hair, the salt and the movement of the water help lock it up.)
Honestly, though, I never noticed a difference using a salt water spray, and stopped using it after about a month. You really don't need them. Dreads tend to do their own thing no matter what, and I think accelerators are basically a way to keep you distracted during the early stages when dreads are unruly. It's not going to do anything that regular maintenance will not.

Tue, December 2, 2008 - 8:40 PMI have been using dreadheadhq accelerator but geez did it make my scalp itch. So I trashed it. I heard but haven't tried that sea salt and water in a spritz bottle works well?

Re: Any One Use accelerators? Home made? what works?
Sun, December 14, 2008 - 7:06 AMI used to make my own before I started using dreadhead HQ shampoo, and then found I didn't actually need any kind of accelerator...but, when I did make it, I used Dead sea Salt, about a tsp, to about 3-4 cups of warm water (to get it dissolving), and a dash of lemon juice, which I found helped to both dry-out my dreads a little more, and give them a non-salty smell...I never EVER used oils in the mix after trying that a couple times...they left a greasy residue, despite only using a few drops...
But Seriously, the best thing you can do, is find a shampoo that works well for your hair and scalp-types, and palm-roll etc...
