1. Doesn't matter. It's one of those things that some people say wet, some say dry...although, doing it before a shower is kinda pointless, as it'd just wash out again?

2. You can't completely avoid getting it on your scalp. I guess you could try bending your head over and spraying the locks themselves, that'd help in avoiding a lot of scalp-spray.

3. No. Although if you have your locks for a number of years, you may notice they may naturally lighten without using any kind of product. My hair is dark brown, and most of my tips are a very light brown, some almost blondish...happened naturally over the years LOL but lemon juice based accelerator won't bleach them...unless you;re spraying multiple times a day, every day and out in the sun constantly.

4. Like with washing, it's a personal thing. Your scalp and hair will tell you if you're over-using...i.e. dryness will result. scalp will become dry and itchy, and hair will become dry and brittle.

5. I used accelerator with my first set of locks, and the first few weeks of my second set. I'm now on my third set. i cam to realise that it's actually not something that's necessary. This set of locks, using absolutely NOTHING on them from birth to now, have locked-up and tightened faster than my other sets.

just for moisture? with the availability of so many other moisture products/home concoctions, i'm going to advise against putting food items in hair (i guess there's lemon juice and tea, which i use, but old grease is still old grease). saying to put them only on mature locks doesn't make a lot of sense to me, either, because my hair now soaks things up and into my dreads (i recently tried to dye the things..so didn't work!), so the oil could end up in there, where i can;t imagine all the good reasons for it not being.

i've used locking accelerators everyday, even more often (because it smelled really good), but that was made out of herbal teas (lavendar and catnip) and sea salt, so i don't know if it'd be best to do this one that way. i wasn't told this, but i thought the reason i was supposed to keep it off my scalp was to prevent webbing. lemon juice needs to be reapplied several times during a day for it to begin bleaching hair,

I have heard of people using olive oil on their dreads but have never done so personally. The only thing i can advise on is not to use olive oil on baby or teen stage dreads. It is for use on mature dreads only and shouldn't be used very often. Without sounding racist or anything, the majority of people who use olive oil on their dreadlocks have african-american texture hair. I imagine their hair type can withstand more moisturising than caucasian hair.

As with the homemade locking accelerator - it can be applied every other day, preferably on dry hair and make sure you avoid spraying onto the scalp as it can irritate the scalp.

HI Elliot.

I did this when my locs were in the baby stage for about 4-5 months. I spritzed 2x a week and no more. Be careful in spraying directly on your scalp because it will dry and irritate it. Also, I apply it to my dry hair, but you can also apply the loc accelerator to wet hair. It didn't turn my hair blond at all and I'm a brunette. In between, apply olive oil to your scalp everyday. Hope this helps

1 parts lemon juice
1 parts sea salt
8 parts warm water

Just a couple of questions on how to use it...

1. Do you apply with your hair wet or dry? Before or after a shower?

2. I have short dreads (about 3 inches long) how do I stop it from getting on my scalp?

3. Will the lemon juice dye my hair blonde?

4. How often should I apply it?

5. Any other details I should know??

Thanks.
