hello dreadie fellows!
i am in dire need of some practiced and perfected advice at the expense of possible dread loss.
one of my locks near the front of my head has about 2.5 inches of soft new growth, and an 8 inch dread dangling from a few thin strands of hair. this happened because for the first year i didnt know to circular rotate the roots to continue knotting, so my new hair grew out too soft to hold the weight of the already locked dread. it is too weak to backcomb or twist at this point, and i've tried marrying it to a more sterdy dread nearby, in vain.
what can i do to save it before it falls off and i have a huge short-spot on the front of my head?
thank you wise dreaded fellows :)
peace
niki

Re: weak spot
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 6:35 PMNiki, this is not totally uncommon. In my early teen years I had a couple dreads fall off. It was devastating. I searched around and found that an easy way to strength up a weak root is crocheting it. It isn't a permanent fix but it should give some hair enough time to grow out so you can tangle it to that weak root. Here is some more info: dreadlocks.tribe.net/thread/...6c69b274
Hope this helps :)
Peace,

Re: weak spot
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 9:55 PMYou could always just let it come off (unless it would look completely ridiculous). I know some other dreadies have had a dread fall off and felt it was a blessing because they got a cute little piece of regular hair to play with. Of course, I'm only saying this because I don't know how to fix the problem. Good luck, I'm sure everything will work out.

Re: weak spot
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 12:09 PMi've had a few of my dreads have this problem. i just tied it in a knot in the weakest spot. it gave the weakened area a bit more strength, and after a bit the knot just blended in and you couldnt even tell it was there. hope this helps!
