so i had a dream the other night that a couple of my dreads actually fell out. although it was a dream, it seemed so very real and i was actually crying in the dream. not sure if this is a sign that either my dreads will fall out or i will be cutting them soon. i know i won't be cutting them anytime soon so . . .
now i've had these dreams but never them falling out. usually they are about me finally cutting my dreads or without them in my dreams. its really really weird. just wondering if any of you guys have had these dreams before?

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 12:12 AMWhen you dream about your teeth falling out, it is a sign of good luck coming soon. Maybe it's the same with dreads.

Re: dread dreams
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 6:24 AMright after i did my dreads, i used to have dreams almost every night of them coming out. mostly the dreams were of them washing out. everytime i'd be so upset because i put so much work into them and they were gone. but those dreams went away after the first couple months.

Re: dread dreams
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 6:54 AMNegative feeling hair loss/cutting dreams are usually due to a feeling of lack of control in your life (same with teeth).
I have dreams about my hair falling out, but none about my dreads. Actually, I've never seen my dreads in my dreams since I've gotten them. Apparently my subconscious self has no dreads.

Re: dread dreams
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 9:19 PMOk, I thought I was the only one who had dreams like this. They happened alot when I first had my hair dreaded. i think it is all subconscience. I would worry about them snapping off, because they were getting on the brittle side. So I think my dreams stemmed from an actual fear. And several times when I thought about cutting them off. I would dream about them coming out. It seemed so real, I thought my dreads were really gone. And I know deep down inside I won't be cutting my dreads of either anytime soon. -

Re: dread dreams
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 7:42 AMi too have had dreams of both ,either me washing them out or cutting them off and regretting it.i cried in the dreams after as well.i haven't had them(dreams) for a few months now.i think it's from the anxiety of getting them to be full mature locks and growing them.let's face it,we all grew dreads for good reasons which causes us to love them more and we just grow really attached to them that we probably think subconsiously think that if anything happened to them,we would be hurt.my wife said i dream about them cuz it's the last thinkg on my mind b4 i sleep.

Re: dread dreams
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 11:19 PMI've had many dreams like this before, not recently..but when my dreads were a month or two old I had a few dreams where my dreads were purple for some reason, and I was palm rolling one of them towards the front of my head and it just fell out in my hands =[ it was really upsetting and I remember waking up feeling my head and almost crying in relief. A few others I became completely bald! It's strange, I thought I was alone as well, good to hear I'm not!!

Re: dread dreams
Mon, December 24, 2007 - 12:32 AMwarning this is graphically gross!
ok. so about a month into growing my dreads i had the most gnarly dream. i hadn't been washing them at all (due to the advice of a sweet mama with the most beautiful locks i have ever seen) and in the dream i went to the mirror to look at them closely because one of them was going to fall out and when i looked closely at my scalp, i saw a patch of kind of red rot on the side of my head. i freaked out and looked closer and it was this gooey pussy rot, and i kept moving dreads aside and finding it all over my scalp in little patches.....
oh boy. my heart is beating just thinking about it!
i washed them immediatly. but have since stopped again.... no more rotting dreams, but i did have a dream of them falling out and then one did! (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise....

Re: dread dreams
Tue, December 25, 2007 - 10:48 PMI really want to know how your dread falling out was a blessing in disguise…did you need it to lasso a hearty stead to escape some villain?
I had a dream that I washed my dreads and they all came out. I was really upset in my dream, because I love my dreads, and it took a lot of work making them.
What's really funny is a friend of mine had a dream a few months ago that he saw me at a party and I didn't have dreads, and my hair was short, so he called me to confirm I hadn't cut my hair. It's ok, no one freak out, they're still on my head.
Eric, maybe your dream is about letting go of some part of you that you've had for a really long time, or maybe something changing that you don't want to change. It doesn't have to be related to your dreads at all (if it was a nap dream I would say you should take it quite literally, because I find when you nap those dreams are more literally relevant) . It could have to do with a behavior, or a person, or anything really. Have you undergone some change lately, or has someone asked you to change and you didn't want to because it's the way you've been for a while, and change would make you feel uncomfortable and out of place? -

Re: dread dreams
Wed, December 26, 2007 - 11:36 PMWow, good to know I'm normal! I've been having dreams of my hair being suddenly un-dreaded. Usually it will also be some random color, or badly done dye job. The first time I dreamed the dreads were gone, I was very upset. However, the second time, I just accepted it for what it was and went on with my life. I've had mine almost a year now, so I guess they're feeling more like a real part of me. (Side note: before having dreads, I'd always have dreams where I'd look in the mirror and my hair would be totally different, like black or curly. Maybe I just like trying out hairstyles in my sleep!)

Re: dread dreams
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 12:03 AMthe blessing in disguise was that it was the very front dread on my right side, and so it broke off pretty short, and i combed it out, and now i have a pretty cute little hair whispy on one side that fits me ever so sweetly and that i get to run my fingers through for nostalgic reasons :) -

Re: dread dreams
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 4:18 PMSo I had to look it up!! I guess dreams about balding and dreams about loosing hair is related to fears of being/seeing yourself as unattractive, and fears of growing older - I found this very interesting...

Re: dread dreams
Sun, January 27, 2008 - 2:39 PMI've had my dreads for about 5 months now and I've had many dreams where my dreads were suddenly gone and I had normal hair again... I always get SO confused in these dreams because I know that can't just happen.. this usually leads me to realize I'm dreaming... an interesting way to achieve lucid dreams!!

Re: dread dreams
Sun, January 27, 2008 - 2:46 PMI had a dream just like this. I think it's part of the paranoid dulusions. I work hard on my dreads everyday and i've only had them for a couple weeks but i palm roll everyday like all day. I think anything that's important like this could cause nightmaires.

Re: dread dreams
Wed, February 27, 2008 - 10:51 PMyeah actually....I have...I've also had dreams that my teeth were falling out, too.
I looked it up in a dream book, and what it really means is a fear of getting old, losing your strength, your youth, vitality, etc. I guess regular people would dream that their hair would be falling out of their head, which would mean the same thing.
I also have dreams tha I am without dreads and nobody recognizes me, and I felt lost. when I woke up in real life I was quite relieved to still have them. having dreads is kind of like a power, and it's something you don't want to lose, like your youth. I have cut off my dreads once before and man was that weird. I'm glad they are back in full stregnth.
now that I know that the dreams have stopped!!
hope that helps
