        Do it....

I was worried about all that stuff before, thats why I cut my 1st set off but I got them again and don't have a worry in the world, if you make them look neat and tie them up they will be fine I think.

Why don't you go round dentists in your local area and ask them?

I think Elliot has the idea...try asking some local dentists...if they're neat and tidy, and can be put right back, I don;t see how they would have a problem with it...good luck! :D xx

I'm graduating from grad school (chiropractor) in 6 months and just dreaded my hair. Its something Ive wanted to do forever and I just went with it. I think if you keep them fairly neat looking (buns and such) while working, it should be fine!!

raquel, i feel you on this!
i've been un.dreaded for a few months and feel dread lust pretty often.

i think asking around is a great idea.
and bottom line, if you do redread, your hair is an important part of your miage [which many people judge by, esp. in quick situaitons like an office visit etc.] but it isnt the only part of you that speaks to your qualities. i never had a problem finding good, honest work with typical people. my personal experience tells me that most people will look beyond your physical image if the rest of your demeanor projects the competance and qualification of any other non.dreaded employee.

    peace

Perhaps take a nice photo of you with your previous dreads so they know what clean and nice looks like. I think a lot of people get the image of a homeless man or hippie that doesn't bathe.

I am growing my hair out to hopefully do my second set of dreads as well. So my opinion is very biased. I am feeling the lust.

I work at a law office in Lincoln, Nebraska and did also when I had my dreads the first time, so if I can get away with having dreads I think you should too.

    Good luck!

The photo idea is very good. That is how I got my last job. I was in another state and didn't want to drive 8 hours if they weren't open to my appearance. After I sent my resume and they expressed interest and wanted to set up an interview, I included with my response a recent photo and explained that if they weren't interested because of my appearance, no hard feelings...They emailed back that not only did they want to continue the interview process, but they were very impressed that I was so open and honest and concerned about not wasting anyone's time.

i'm in des moines, a really straight small city that's totally i love with calling itself the "metro" (it's so sad), and finding regular employment has been nearly impossible. however, i was told that once i had my bachelor's degree and teaching certificate this wouldn't be such a problem. asking around locally is a great idea. also, if you would like to relocate to an area that would be totally accepting of your hair, there are places- humboldt county, ca is amazing! it has a really diverse culture, lots of stuff going on, and you'd have no problem getting a job because of your dreads- tons of people have them.
