Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 11:14 PMSo how do you feel? I've heard it can be an enlightening feeling. -

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 1:19 AMIt's bizarre...they would've been three in July...and yeah now....my head feels so light (they were close to halfway down my back)...and I'm just used to being tickled by those fuzzies...and I can comb my hair! Man it feels good....so yeah, in a sense, it is an "enlightening" or liberating feeling....but on the other hand, I already miss them a little - and I know it'll be worse when I happen to come across someone with dreads lol...
But I have kept the bits I've cut off (fairly long) so one day I can sew them back on...so hope is not lost lol! -

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 7:27 AMSo I have to ask...why?
-
Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 9:14 AMWOW! So you're not joking, eh? Why did you cut them?

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 5:57 PMYeah I had a friend who cut his dreads off because of a scalp problem but he kept his dreads just in case he wanted dreads again, he could just grow some hair, dread it up, and crochet his old long dreads back in!!

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 8:35 AM*gasp* was it spur of the moment, or had you been planning this? i bet it feels good to be able to run your fingers thru your hair. i had the softest smoothest silkiest hair ever before i dreaded it. honestly, thats about the only thing i miss - being able to run my fingers thru my hair. -

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 2:26 PMThat's so funny…I like having dreads because I can run my fingers through them. When I had undreaded hair, I could only brush it once out of the shower, and trying to run my fingers through it otherwise resulted in stuck fingers. -

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 7:07 PMok....I'm gonna re-post my response from DreadTribe (and add some more to answer specifics in this tribe lol)
I did! I do miss them, but man, it is so light now (they were so heavy!) and washing my hair is now so easy...it only takes like 2mins with a hair dryer (unlike the entire day of air-drying with dreads)...and combing...oh man...combing....scalp loves me at the moment...but I do miss them...
I have saved them though...It's actually amazing to see them properly for the first time (without mirrors etc)...so yeah, I can sew them back on one day...just needed a change and my scalp was really getting itchy (and washing was not fixing the problem...I think because my roots were matted-up right-up close to my scalp (I had dreaded to about 3/4 inch to scalp) washing really wasn't getting to a lot of my scalp and yeah dandruff was causing problems...
Having some issues today though...my hair is so used to dreads (almost three years) that now that it's fancy free, it's doing its own thing...my hair's about 4 inches long and kinda looks like Pat Benatar today! That will change...last time I had dreads and cut em off my hair did the same thing...was rather wild and unruly for a few days, til it settled and went normal lol....
yeah it does feel good running my fingers through my hair...but I could do that with dreads too...mine were quite neat....man they look good...it's weird I can now finally appreciate how stunning they are lol!

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 10:49 PMI cut mine off recently, too. At first it felt like my face was too heavy for my head, so I thought my head would just keep flopping forward. And mine weren't even that long.
There is nothing quite like the first hair-washing after all of the knots are out.

Re: Aaaarrrgggghhhh....!!!!
Fri, March 7, 2008 - 5:36 PMwow i'm surprised to say the least. but i trimmed mine up a few days ago too. now they're down to the middle of my back. i saved most of them. i didn't trim all of them. i left three, but may be cutting 2 of them soon. the other one is a conga so i don't know what i'll do with that one. just one questions for those you've saved there dreads after cutting them, where did you put them? I currently have mind in a ziplock bag, it was the biggest one i could find, but my dreads were so long that i had to curve them to fit in the bag. i'll post pics of my trimmed dreads soon enough, along with my leftovers. perhaps tomorrow
