Re: Hair Teas
Sat, January 31, 2009 - 7:47 PMI'm not exactly sure what you mean specifically by "hair tea", but I use a recipe for something that I would call a hair tea that MtnMama posted a while back and it is AMAZING. Cleans my dreads and scalp, and I don't end up all itchy scabby and flaky later on. I've had more success with this stuff than anything else I've tried, by far. Here's the recipe she posted...
mix ingedients in bowl/container that is large enough to soak all your dreads in
first, boil a handful of any of the following herbs in a medium pot until you have a dark, strong tea 15-30 minutes-try rosemary, nettles, peppermint, lavender, sage or thyme
pour tea into container & add water until full & at comfortable temperature
add 3/4 cup baking soda to tea/water and stir until disolved
add 2 tablespoons of each: apple cider vinegar, lime juice, sea salt
add 8 tea tree oil and 4 drops laveneder oil, mix well
soak your dreads as best as you can and dump the mixture over your dreads, making sure they are all saturated
wrap your dreads in a towel and enjoy the tingling feelings as your dreads and scalp get happy and clean
wait at least 30 minutes before rinsing -

Re: Hair Teas
Sun, February 1, 2009 - 12:14 PMYeah you pretty much hit the nail on the head. MtnMama's recipe that you posted seems a lot more complex then the other hea tea recipes I have come across - might give it a go. Peppermint is meant to help cool the scalp and ease the itch doesn't it? My babies are only one month old and I have heard itching is normal (and no, its not lice) but this is driving me mad. The itch seems to go away a bit when I wrap my head but when I just let them be, it drives me crazy.
Any other ideas on curing the itch or telling me when it will get better would help a lot. Will try that recipe though - Thanks!

Re: Hair Teas
Tue, March 10, 2009 - 7:54 AMHey, if you know that you don't have any scalp issues that should send you to the dermatologist stat....I would look into the apple cider vinegar rinses for your itchy scalp. I usually mix about a table spoon of apple cider vinegar to two cups of camomile and rosemary tea that I brew. I do it after a good wash. You can either rinse after ward or leave it on. I usually rinse. I also hear tea tree oil or peppermint oil helps with itch as well. You can simply add a few drops of either or both oil to your tea.
Good Luck.....
